Charity Opportunity for San Diego Plane Crash Victim

In an effort to help out a man who lost his family in the tragic crash of a military plane into a San Diego neighborhood, we have created a charity opportunity for businesses and movie lovers.

People across the nation are heartbroken over the disaster experienced by Dong Yoon, an immigrant from South Korea who lost his wife, two young children and his mother-in-law when a Marine jet crashed into their suburban home. Producer/Director Ryan Humphries and Executive Producer Robert Lenney of Sounds, decided to do something to help.

Humphries and Lenney will be donating $1 to Mr. Yoon for each moviegoer who attends the Beverly Hills premiere of their sci-fi comedy, Sounds. They are also calling upon fellow producers and all other businesses to make a matching pledge of $1 for every person in attendance. Sounds will screen at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 at the 2008 Beverly Hills Hi-Def Film Festival (www.bhh-dff.com) in the prestigious Fine Arts Theater, 8556 Wilshire Blvd.

“We grieve for Mr. Yoon and just wanted to help in some way,” said Lenney. “The Fine Arts Theater has seating for 410 people, so this could possibly generate tens of thousands of dollars in support with a full theater and many companies stepping up to donate.”
Soraya Andrade, program director for the festival, applauds Sounds for its charitable idea. “Who can possibly feel the pain that Mr. Yoon is experiencing? It is times like this that we can all band together to help people in need. We hope that the theater fills up with kind and giving movie lovers and that businesses step up to help out.”

The Korean United Methodist Church, the place of worship for the Yoon family, is already accepting donations and is prepared to receive any charitable contributions generated from the Sounds premiere. Associate Pastor Daniel Shin of the church remarked, “This is a wonderful idea and I praise the Lord for you to contribute in this way.”

The process of donating is pretty simple, said Lenney. Companies willing to donate should contact him ahead of time at rob@soundsthemovie.com. They will then be notified the day after the premiere about how many people where in attendance. The company then sends a check in the name of Dong Yoon to the Korean United Methodist Church, 3520 Mount Acadia Blvd, San Diego, CA 92111.
Several businesses, including Sounds and the film festival itself, have already pledged donations. Companies interested in contributing to the Dong Yoon fund through the Sounds premiere can go to www.soundsthemovie.com for more information and a list of contributors. Or send an email to rob@soundsthemovie.com and let him know you want to donate.

Example of how this would work: If your company donated $1 per movie goer that attended the Sounds premiere, and lets say that 300 people attended, you would just multiply $1 x 300, which comes to $300. The day after the premiere, which would be December 31st, you will be called and emailed with the information of how many people attended and then you would just send in a check to the Korean United Methodist Church mentioned above. The check would be made out to Dong Yoon, and the church will deposit it into a special trust fund made out for Mr. Yoon.
